Municipality of Apeldoorn and VanWonen sign anterior agreement for Vlijtse Parktorens

At the Provada real estate fair, area Developer VanWonen and the municipality of Apeldoorn have signed an anterior agreement (agreement on cost recovery) for the development of Vlijtse Parktorens. This development consists of around 390 homes and apartments, a dance school and a health centre, situated in Kanaalzone Noord in Apeldoorn. Construction is expected to start in early 2027.


Alderman Peter Messerschmidt (Housing, Culture, and Spatial Planning) signed the agreement together with VanWonen director André ten Vergert.

Vlijtse Parktorens
With Vlijtse Parktorens, VanWonen is developing a prominent and easily identifiable group of four residential buildings that vary in height, designed by Barcode Architects. 70% of the homes in this development are affordable, a mix of rental housing and owner-occupied. More than 40% of these are designated as social housing. Soaring to around 70 metres, the tallest tower is exclusively for housing association Ons Huis and will therefore only house social housing units.

Alderman Peter Messerschmidt is pleased with the agreement signed today: “These accords highlight our excellent partnership with VanWonen. They pave the way for much-needed housing, space for a new health centre and a great spot for the dance school. The Grift stream will also be expanded, making this area greener and more inviting – a perfect fit for Apeldoorn, the Veluwe’s green and welcoming capital.”

VanWonen director André ten Vergert adds: “Thanks to the good partnership with the municipality of Apeldoorn, we are able to push forward with realizing Vlijtse Parktorens. This whole area will be transformed over the next few years. The municipality has already begun construction on the new swimming pool, and the plans for the parking hub are becoming more and more concrete. With Vlijtse Parktorens, VanWonen creates a fresh urban living environment that perfectly aligns with Apeldoorn’s ambitions. We are actively working to present the draft environmental plan after the summer holidays. The goal remains to start construction by early 2027.”

Area development Kanaalzone Noord
Vlijtse Parktorens is part of a new area development in Kanaalzone Noord, along the Grift stream. The city of Apeldoorn will also be adding a new swimming pool and a multi-storey car park in this area. In accordance with the environmental vision, the city centre will be linked to the Kanaalzone (‘canal zone’) and the Spoorzone (‘railway zone’) via the integration of green spaces, water and housing.

Earlier this year, VanWonen signed an agreement with housing association Ons Huis to investigate the feasibility of reaching a final agreement for approximately 160 rental homes in Vlijtse Parktorens.
