Celebration of start construction Janninkkwartier Enschede

Due to Covid-19, it was not possible to organise an event to celebrate the start of the construction of the 30 ground-oriented rental homes in the Janninkkwartier in Enschede last year. In the meantime, the construction of the houses has started. To give this the attention it deserves, an official moment was organised. On the 10th of June, the municipality of Enschede, construction company Nijhuis Bouw and area and property developer VanWonen festively kicked off the construction of this part of the new city district.

The 30 spacious rental homes are part of Het Janninkkwartier, a sustainable and green city courtyard area with a total of 150 homes. The 30 rental homes will be included in the VanWonen housing fund. The homes are all built sustainably, with an EPC rating of 0, and will be connected to the district heating network. They will be completed move-in ready, with luxury bathrooms and kitchens. The walls will be fitted with wallpaper and the floors with PVC and laminate flooring. The gardens will be landscaped. In short: all the future residents need to do is get their belongings.

An asset to Enschede
All parties involved are excited about the realisation of this wonderful project. “One of Enschede’s greatest challenges is to retain and attract talented people. But to do this, suitable housing must also be available. With the addition of VanWonen’s more expensive rental homes, the housing supply for this group will increase and become more attractive,” says alderman Jeroen Diepemaat.

Not only the subplan, but also the excellent collaboration ensures that Enschede will have a fantastic housing development in the course of this year. VanWonen development manager Tom Munter: “Our collaboration with contractor Nijhuis and with the municipality is going very well. We are convinced that the final result will be very attractive.”

Rental application process has started
The application process for the rental homes has started. The first tenancy agreements have been signed. Stefien Eijssen, manager of rentals at VanWonen: “We are pleased with the interest in the project. Although the completion is still a few months away, people already want to secure a home in this beautiful project.” Janninkkwartier is expected to be completed in the last quarter of 2021.
