Handover of first zero-energy homes in Hart van de Waalsprong

News item, Area and Property Development

The first homes in Hart van de Waalsprong in Nijmegen have been handed over: 30 ground-oriented zero-energy homes in the Crevas block. In the presence of Nijmegen alderman Noël Vergunst, one of the first residents of Hart van de Waalsprong received the keys to her newly built home.

Alderman Noël Vergunst: “It is good news for Nijmegen that these first homes that have been handed over in Hart van de Waalsprong also mark the handover of the first owner-occupied homes in Hof van Holland. Another great milestone in this area development, which is so important for our city; the heart of De Waalsprong is now starting to beat! I wish the very first residents of Hart van de Waalsprong good luck in their beautiful new homes!”

Development combination Hart van de Waalsprong, a joint project of area developers AM and VanWonen, is proud of this milestone in the project. “It is great that the handovers of the first homes in Hart van de Waalsprong have started. We are proud of the varied and complete programme we are offering here, with a differentiated range of owner-occupied homes, apartments, private rental sector homes and social homes,” says René Steman, VanWonen project director for Hart van de Waalsprong.

Crevas: sustainably developed
The 30 homes that are now handed over have been developed sustainably on many levels. The homes are zero-energy due to excellent insulation, a heat recovery system, solar panels and district heating. They also provide space for nesting boxes and the roofs of the sheds are covered with sedum. The paving of the courtyard is water permeable. In addition, a low-traffic environment is created, as the residents park their cars behind the homes in the courtyard.

Alkin Kemperman, director of Janssen de Jong Bouw Oost, construction partner for these homes: “When I’m on the construction site, I almost don’t know where to look first. No façade is the same and the brickwork is full of details and surprises. At a time when costs savings and construction speed are of great importance, Hart van de Waalsprong stands out in terms of aesthetics, sustainability and the central place that nature takes in the design. This neighbourhood really adds to the character of Nijmegen and I am proud that we were able to contribute to it with our craftsmanship.”

Final handovers by the end of 2024
The handover of the homes in Alver and Bliek is planned for this year. The multi-storey car park Bliek will also be completed this year. All homes and commercial facilities in Hart van de Waalsprong are expected to be handed over by the end of 2024. A number of houses and apartments are still available.
