Leases signed with first tenants of Hart van de Waalsprong shopping centre in Nijmegen
News item, Area and Property Development
Development combination Hart van de Waalsprong (a joint project of area developers AM and VanWonen) has signed lease agreements for the new Hart van de Waalsprong shopping centre in Nijmegen with HEMA, coffeehouse Bairro Alto, Etos, Gall & Gall and food bar Sound & Soul. It was also announced that, of the two supermarkets Aldi and Albert Heijn, Albert Heijn will be an XL shop. The first part of the shopping centre will be handed over to the retailers at the end of 2023.
Energy-neutral and future-proof shopping
The lively Oranje Marieplein square forms the heart of the shopping area. On this square, two shops in particular attract retail shoppers: the supermarkets AH-XL (full-service) and ALDI (discounter). At the striking front of building Elft, food bar Sound & Soul, a music cafe, provides a cosy place to eat for the neighbourhood, with high-quality and sustainable food. Sound & Soul has a lovely outdoor patio next to the fountains on the square. A branch of wine shop Gall & Gall and chemist Etos will be established in the pedestrian zone that covers the area between the multi-storey car park and the town square.
On the plinth level of building Grutto on Moormannstraat (on the south side of the Oranje Marieplein square), there will be a HEMA branch of approximately 600 m2. Cecile van Leerdam, Manager of Vastgoed Nederland HEMA: “We are very pleased to be part of the first energy-neutral shopping centre in the Netherlands. We are going to create a beautiful HEMA shop here, full of appealing, practical products, with a typically Dutch design that also last longer. And at competitive prices, of course.’
On the Watersingel (the canal) on the south side of the city centre, coffeehouse Bairro Alto will be located. The cafe will cater to passing cyclists and pedestrians recreating in the area of Hart van de Waalsprong.
Energy for shopping centre and residents generated locally and sustainably
Energy-neutral shopping is the norm in Hart van de Waalsprong. The energy required for the shopping centre will, as far as possible, be generated locally and sustainably. The solar roof on the Bliek multi-storey car park provides space for over 1,200 PV panels that will provide the shopping centre and the local residents with a direct supply of green electricity. Local energy cooperative Buren van Bliek will manage the solar roof. The district heating network of Vattenfall will also be used. The recent contracting is in line with the aim to realise a mix of sustainable national and local parties.
