New tenants for zero-energy shopping centre Hart van de Waalsprong

News item, Area and Property Development

Development combination Hart van de Waalsprong (a joint project of area developers AM and VanWonen) has signed a substantial number of new lease agreements for the new Hart van de Waalsprong shopping centre in Nijmegen. The new tenants are Noah Kappers, Domino’s, Kwalitaria, Alba, AMI Kappers, Eye Wish Opticiens, Bruna, Strijbosch Thunnissen Makelaars, Zuivelhoeve, Boerderijwinkel Appeltje Eitje and Pearle Opticiens. The recent lease contracts are in line with the ambition to provide a balanced mix of local and national retail formats. And they are in accord with the aim to create a fully fledged and attractive shopping centre for consumers.

Letting is progressing well
The new zero-energy shopping centre will be the vibrant and social heart of Nijmegen-Noord. Noah Kappers (a hairdressing salon) will set up shop in the eye-catching corner building on Graaf Allardsingel and Theo Dobbestraat. In the pedestrian zone, Pearl, Bruna, Zuivelhoeve and Appeltje-Eitje will be located. Appeltje-Eitje is a vending machine concept, offering fresh products that come straight from the farm.

Domino’s Pizza and Kwalitaria can be found across from the entrance to the multi-storey car park on Truus Gelsingstraat. Real estate company Strijbosch Thunnissen Makelaars, Eye Wish Opticiens and AMI Kappers (a hairdressing salon) will open their doors on the corner of Riet van Alebeekstraat, continuing into Moormannstraat. And the Oranje Marieplein square will have another inviting catering establishment with the arrival of Alba (from the entrepreneurs of restaurant Zijdewinde).

These tenants are a great addition to the previously signed lease contracts with AH XL, Aldi, HEMA, coffee bar Bairro Alto, Etos, Gall & Gall and Sound & Soul Foodbar. If all goes according to plan, the shopping centre will open its doors by the end of 2023.

Still looking for
Hart van de Waalsprong is evolving into an attractive and fully fledged shopping centre. Thijs Huis in het Veld, project director of AM, on behalf of Hart van de Waalsprong: ‘With the new tenants, we already have a beautiful range of shops, amenities and catering establishments. We would still like to expand this further, to offer an even more comprehensive mix of shops and services. We are therefore looking for a quality florist and fish shop. There is also scope for companies offering business services and personal care services (beauty).’ More information can be found in the leasing brochure. Hart van de Waalsprong
Hart van de Waalsprong is located in the Hof van Holland district. This new district of Nijmegen-Noord (Nijmegen North) is conveniently located between Spiegelwaal, Graaf Alardsingel, and the railway. Hart van de Waalsprong is the heart of the Waalsprong (the area in Nijmegen north of the river Waal) for living and shopping. It is easily accessible by car, bicycle and public transport (the train station of Lent is within walking distance). In addition to the shopping centre, Hart van de Waalsprong will feature 504 owner-occupied and rental homes (including 101 social housing apartments), and over 30 retail units, including inviting cafes and restaurants. The new neighbourhood has a distinctive character due to its sustainability, water and greenery, and exciting urban architecture.

The first residents of Hart van de Waalsprong received the keys to their new homes at the end of October last year. The multi-storey car park with its unique architectural design is also in use now. It features a solar roof, which will provide a large part of the district with sustainably generated energy. The first part of the shopping centre will be handed over to the retail owners at the end of 2023. The second phase will be completed in 2024.
