VanWonen and StiGaM sign agreement for Feyenoord City development in Rotterdam
News item, Area and Property Development
Area developer VanWonen and Stichting Gebiedsontwikkeling aan de Maas (StiGaM) have taken an important step in the Feyenoord City development in Rotterdam. VanWonen will be a partner in this area development alongside AM and Heijmans. The development consists of some 4,750 homes and over 70,000 m2 of social and commercial amenities. A signed agreement has cemented this collaboration.
The Rotterdam City Council’s recent approval of the revised plans for Stadionpark and Feyenoord City 2.0, as well as De Waterkant (in Dutch: ‘the Waterfront’) Ambition Document, paved the way for this agreement. In a short span of time, major strides have been taken towards the large-scale housing development and infrastructure renewal around De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam-Zuid. Jos Melchers, Director of Area Development Rotterdam: “With VanWonen, we welcome a new party to this area development and to Rotterdam. In other areas of the Netherlands, VanWonen has already established a track record of success in developing customer-centric, high-quality and sustainable projects. It is heartening to see that a party like this has confidence in this area development and wants to commit to this part of the city for the long term.”
Meaningful new neighbourhood
De Waterkant, located on the Meuse River and the future tidal park, offers opportunities to build a meaningful new neighbourhood that is both physically and socially connected to the surrounding neighbourhoods. For this area development, StiGaM and VanWonen are teaming up. Rob de Jong of StiGaM: “The aim is to transform the site into a high-density area with a diverse programme of housing, social and commercial amenities.”
Long-term partnership
“We are proud of the start of this long-term partnership with StiGaM. An ambitious urban development project through which we, together with all partners, stakeholders, and of course the future residents, will create a sustainable residential environment. We are excited to collaborate on this beautiful new development in Rotterdam,” says Alfred Bolks, CEO of VanWonen.
Feyenoord City (soon to be renamed) will be built in phases over the next ten years. Construction of De Waterkant is scheduled to start in the course of 2027.
