"We're beaming with pride, because our new construction project Pegasus in Binckhorst in The Hague has won the very first South Holland Affordable Housing Award!" This award is an initiative of the Province of South Holland. Astrid Mooij, Project Manager at housing association Staedion, received the award from Anne Koning, member of the South Holland Provincial Executive. This happened during the South Holland Housing Conference on 5 September. Pegasus was realised by Staedion in collaboration with NU Projectontwikkeling/Van Wonen and Stebru.

Pegasus constructed for a mix of target groups
Pegasus is a complex with a total of 300 public-sector rented homes in the Binckhorst in The Hague, owned by housing association Staedion. In addition, there are commercial units on the ground floor, while the office of NU Projectontwikkeling/Van Wonen is located on the top floor of the highest tower. The residents of the public-sector rented homes can enjoy communal nature-inclusive roof garden where they can meet each other. The homes are intended for a mix of target groups, including younger professionals, starters and young people up to the age of 23. To counter the tightness on the housing market and to make better use of the (public-sector) housing stock, Staedion is offering friends contracts for 26 homes. This means that two friends can live together in a public-sector rented home and are jointly responsible for paying the (social) rent, which makes it more affordable for them. Pegasus was realised in collaboration with NU Projectontwikkeling/Van Wonen and developer & construction company Stebru.

Jury astounded by courage
The independent jury selected the winner from 42 entries. Jury chair Jozefine Hoft: "We were astounded by the courage to realise a large building with 100% public-sector rented homes in such a location. The association has carefully considered the mix of target groups and has used innovative concepts to ensure that as many people as possible have a new home."
Michel Zaadhof, director of NU Project Development, is proud: "Of course, we're very happy with this award. With Pegasus, we show that our vision of affordable housing works and is appreciated. Thanks in part to the good collaboration with Staedion and the municipality of The Hague, we were able to realise this extensive project. A wonderful recognition by a professional jury on behalf of the Province of South Holland!"

Affordable Housing Award
The first Affordable Housing Award shows that many affordable housing projects are being realised in South Holland. Member of the South Holland Provincial Executive Anne Koning: "It is possible. We want to show that. Because we all want to build the homes that our residents need so badly. Pegasus and all the other entries are an award in themselves. They all help people find an affordable home."

With the very first Affordable Housing Award, the province highlights projects that have been completed over the past two years. This concerns projects with public-sector housing, mid-market and/or affordable owner-occupied homes. In addition to Pegasus, two other projects were nominated: Stompwijkstraat in Wassenaar and Sporthoeklaan in Lansingerland.
