Wednesday afternoon marked the groundbreaking ceremony for Lents Buiten Oost, with Nijmegen alderman Noël Vergunst and partners VanWonen and KlaassenGroep kicking off the start of construction. The 33 houses are nestled on the banks of the river Waal, on the outskirts of the village of Lent, with views of Nijmegen’s historic inner city. MIX Architecture designed the new development. The project is sold out and the homes will be handed over in the second half of 2025.
Lents Buiten Oost, the second phase of the plan area De Stelt, is a neighbourhood that stands out for its sustainable and landscape-oriented design. Alderman Noël Vergunst congratulated the new residents: “This new neighbourhood is a welcome addition to Nijmegen-Noord. It offers future residents a green, sustainable living environment and contributes to a diverse range of house types for all target groups.”
Sustainable living in harmony with the landscape
Lents Buiten Oost is characterized by a great diversity of homes. The park homes, dike houses, bungalows and apartments are designed to be sustainable and blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.
Miranda Venekamp-Brandt, Director of Marketing, Sales & Rental Operations at VanWonen, explains: “The houses form a green connection to the river landscape. Taking advantage of the natural changes in elevation, the development incorporates green zones filled with trees and shrubs to support a diverse ecosystem. It will be a very pleasant place to live.”
Dirk-Jan Klaassen, director of the KlaassenGroep, adds: “It’s a beautiful thing to bring to life a project that combines exquisite architecture with a harmonious balance of living, nature, and sustainability. Our skilled workers are proud of their work, and we’re excited to see these homes completed in the second half of 2025.”
