Agreement for 190 social homes in Huissen

News item, Area and Property Development

On Thursday 19 March, area developers BPD | Bouwfonds Gebiedsontwikkeling and VanWonen, together with housing association Waardwonen, signed a letter of intent for the development of approximately 190 social homes. These will be built in the area Gaard 2 and Gaard 3 of Driegaarden: a new neighbourhood with a total of up to 650 homes.

Varied and affordable range of housing
Gaard 2 and Gaard 3 in Driegaarden will offer a diverse range of house types, catering to a variety of target groups, including first-time home buyers and the elderly. In accordance with the regionally agreed ‘Woondeal 2.0’, a large proportion of the rental and owner-occupied homes will fall within the affordable segment.

Next steps in the area development
Together, the parties have determined the general mix of social housing types. BPD and VanWonen are currently drafting the urban development plan, partly based on input from local residents, the future occupants of the homes and other stakeholders. The letter of intent outlines the collaboration, guiding principles and working methods that will guide this process.

Driegaarden location
The project area is situated on the outskirts of Huissen, bordering the ’t Zand neighbourhood. The site was previously used for horticulture, but the greenhouses have since been removed. The plan’s identity is heavily inspired by the area’s history of greenhouses, gardens and green spaces.

  • Gaard 2 is situated between Bredestraat, Huismanstraat/Het Klaphek and Muntstraat.
  • Gaard 3 is situated between De Hoeve and Van Wijkstraat.

With the signing on 19 March, the three parties took an important joint step towards the development of affordable rental housing.
