Groundbreaking ceremony ‘De Tuinkamer’ in Meppel
News item, Area and Property Development
On Wednesday afternoon, alderman Robin van Ulzen, together with area developer VanWonen and Schutte Bouw, celebrated the start of construction of the ‘De Tuinkamer’ (The Garden Room) project. The project comprises a total of 102 zero-energy homes, located in the Parkwonen 3/4/5 sub-area in the Nieuwveense Landen district. Phase 1 of the project has sold out, but for phases 2 and 3 a diverse range of homes is still available, from back-to-back houses to spacious detached houses.
Alderman Robin van Ulzen congratulates the future residents: “It’s great news for Meppel that construction has officially begun on the first project in Parkwonen 3/4/5. De Tuinkamer stands out with its green and spacious design and wide variety of homes. There are homes for both first-time home buyers and people moving up on the housing ladder. This means countryside living in Meppel is now within reach for a broad range of people.”
VanWonen director André ten Vergert: “With De Tuinkamer, we are realizing a one-of-a-kind project. The residents will get to live in a sustainable home, in a beautiful, peaceful, and green rural setting, while still having the lively centre of Meppel conveniently accessible.”
De Tuinkamer
The homes in De Tuinkamer are situated within a high-quality landscaped park. The layout of the urban plan is based on the historical structures in villages in Drenthe. In the old days, houses in the village centres were often clustered around a ‘brink’, a central green. But many villages also stretched out along a road, like ribbons on the landscape. These are known as ribbon villages. In ‘De Tuinkamer’ the gardens of the houses also naturally connect to the landscaped park, making the park an extension of the gardens. The plan only features natural property boundaries, such as green hedges. This is how VanWonen realises rural living in Nieuwveense Landen, in partnership with wUrck architectuur, stedenbouw en landschap.
Paul Dijkman, director of Schutte Bouw: “We’re pleased that work has begun on De Tuinkamer. With its really beautiful architecture, this is going to be a very pleasant and child-friendly residential neighbourhood in a green area. I’m proud that we get to bring this project to life with our skilled people.”
Planning
The plan for De Tuinkamer will be realised in phases. Construction of phase 1 (42 homes) has now started. Construction of phase 2 (30 homes) will start after the summer. The homes in phase 3 (30 homes) are now for sale. There are still some homes available in phase 2, with prices starting at € 349,000 (closing costs paid by the seller). The handover of the first homes is planned for the second quarter of 2026. More information: www.detuinkamermeppel.nl.
