Partnership for the new ‘Stadshaven’ city district in Groningen has become a reality
News item, Area and Property Development
On Tuesday, 17 May 2022, the partnership agreement for the development of Stadshaven was signed by the parties involved. The Municipality of Groningen, developers VolkerWessels Vastgoed, VanWonen, BPD, and housing corporations Nijestee and Lefier will jointly create the new Stadshaven city district along the Damsterdiep.
Signing this agreement is a major step towards creating a new Groningen. It concerns a long-term partnership for the construction of 2,400 homes and 30,000 m2 of commercial and social spaces along the Eemskanaal in the eastern part of the city.
Purchase and rental properties will be created for all residents and incomes. Various parties make a contribution to this project and ensure the creation of more affordable living spaces for social and middle-income tenants.
The district will not use natural gas and will be sustainable and climate-proof. The parties involved strive to develop and create the best possible living environment. This includes a green and low-traffic design of the public space, the conversion of the Damsterdiep into a green city lane, and the creation of a Havenpark.
The city of Groningen will have a new pleasant area for people to live, work, and relax. If all procedures go well, the work can get started in 2024.
