Alderman launches construction of final phase of 'In de Luwte I' project in the city of Drachten

With the cutting of a ribbon, the official start of the construction was marked. Alderman Hartogh Heys of Lier stated: "On behalf of the municipality of Smallingerland, I would like to congratulate the new residents on their future new homes. They are beautiful, sustainable new-build homes close to the centre of Drachten with a splendid view of the Drachtstervaart canal. This will indeed be a wonderful place to live."

Sustainable and affordable living
Here in the 'In de Luwte I' plan area, experiencing the seasons and the water is paramount. Practically all homes are located at the waterfront or at least have a view of the water. Mireille Jeurnink, VanWonen Director of Real Estate Development: "These last 13 homes mark the completion of the entire 'In de Luwte I' project. VanWonen has developed 156 homes in this area, in a wide variety, ranging from detached and semi-detached houses, townhouses and terraced houses, which includes owner-occupied and rental housing, as well as a number of open market plots. We previously planned 10 semi-detached houses at the location where we are now. In the end, we decided to redevelop this into 13 affordable homes, in close cooperation with the municipality. The interest in this turned out to be enormous. It's great to see that we can now meet the needs of so many Drachten residents by providing comfortable and affordable living."

Jetze Lont, General Manager of Lont adds: “We are proud that we, with our professionals, can now also realise the homes in this final phase along the Drachtstervaart canal. We expect to deliver the townhouses from the penultimate phase before the end of this year and these last 13 homes in the second quarter of 2025."
