This transformation is happening fast. An attractive neighbourhood with an industrial character is emerging, perfect for living and working. The Binckhorst started out as a large, inner-city industrial zone situated along the Trekvliet canal, with 3 inland ports. Its prime location, close to the city centre, the motorway and the railway, prompted the municipality to open up the area for mixed-use development (living and working). This is taking place in close consultation and cooperation with all involved parties. Thanks to the Rotterdamsebaan, the Binckhorst is one of the most easily accessible areas in the region. The new Victory Boogie Woogie tunnel ensures excellent access from the Binckhorst to the motorways.
Just a stone’s throw from the city centre of The Hague and on the edge of Voorburg, NU has developed a unique plan between Orionstraat, Wegastraat and Pegasusstraat. Two prominent towers rising from an urban base with a roof garden, will provide space for 300 social homes and a car park, developed for the Staedion housing association. Business spaces for small and medium-sized enterprises will be situated on the ground floor and the first floor. The top of the tallest tower, its “crown”, will house an office floor.
Sustainability was a key focus in the development of this project. The roof garden and green roofs are designed to be climate-adaptive and nature-inclusive, while the homes will be low-energy and comfortable. The complex will have HR++ glass, solar panels and underfloor heating. Thanks to its proximity to an Eneco district heating network, the complex will be heated sustainably. To encourage cycling, the development includes 900 private bicycle parking spaces on the ground floor, situated beneath the building’s car park. This will contribute to the liveability of the neighbourhood.
The accessibility of the location is excellent. The train stations Den Haag Centraal, Voorburg and Den Haag HS are nearby. And there is the planned addition of a new tram line. All this ensures the location is easily accessible by public transport, bicycle and car.
With this project, we contribute to the high demand for more affordable and low-energy new builds.
The first tower was completed at the end of June 2023. The second tower will be completed after this year’s summer holidays.
